Inari's Surgery

This little boopsie had surgery a few weeks ago. She had a small mystery cyst on her back that finally bugged me enough to pay the ASTRONOMICAL amount to have it removed. It didn't bother Inari at all, but i am easily grossed out, and have learned from past experiences with dogs and cysts that sooner is usually better. Charlie had to go out of town the week her surgery was scheduled, so it was up to me to deal with Franken-dog alone.

She was so pitiful when I picked her up from the vet the afternoon after they removed it. She had the cone of shame, and could hardly keep her eyes opened! Her tongue was also hanging out a little bit the entire evening. Funny and sad at the same time. She just laid on my lap all night and whimpered with each breath. I know she wasn't in any pain, just disoriented from the medication wearing off.

She had to wear her cone for almost 2 weeks while her stitches were in, but now is totally herself. And the cyst wasn't anything serious... just an aggravated ingrown hair.

I was so relieved.

She is my heart.

Bikram

So i signed for up a month of Bikram (26 yoga poses done in an extremely hot and humid room) and i loved it. I have been going 5-6 times a week and feel fabulous. Took a little time off because of a random health issue, but am anxious to go back. I recommend it to anyone. It will change your life.

PS-I extended my contract to 6 months! Love it.

Kaitlin came from Chicago for vacation, and we spent the day together on the beach and drinking cocktails, catching up, meeting puppies, and making shell art. The next night we had a fabulous barbeque at Christina's in her honor. I love being able to be 100% myself, and be 100% understood.

We just got back from the Keystone Aerobatic Competition in Keystone, FL. Charlie was flying a new airplane that he was less comfortable with (and not as good at flying...haha) so he didn't place, but it was still very fun, and we are proud of all of the Eagle Sport Aviation Club members who did place. I did not take most of these picture because I had the very important job of tallying up the scores. This meant that I got to sit inside, (out of the sun; very good for my pale vampire skin) in the climate controlled office AND find out who won before everyone else. It was fun and perfect and I felt important! haha. Charlie's mom and Inari came with us. Overall, it was a long but fun time.

Leeward Practice Day

Leeward Air Ranch is a huge community, and everyone who lives there has to own an airplane. Seriously. The houses have garages AND hangers. One of the club members lives there and offered to host a "practice day" for the upcoming contest. Some of the best and most experienced competitors live in Leeward as well, so it was a perfect time for some good critiquing. They were all nice enough to open their houses to us crazy kids, and let us crash for the night. The next morning we drove/flew to Keystone to practice some more. These are pictures from the weekend.

back at it!

Spent most of the weekend cozied up next to my painting. I don't have an easel, and although I have often shopped for one, I always forego it in the end. There is something more intimate about propping a painting up against a wall or table and crouching down at it's level. Mixing paints on the floor. Sitting cross-legged, or frog-style, or leaning on elbows...its almost like giving it a big hug. Getting so close to work on the details that you get a little paint smeared on your nose. I know I sound crazy and totally weird... I have used easels in every painting class ever, and it might be more comfortable but I never like the distance it creates between me and what I am working on...

I went to FL to visit Kaitlin, and Charlie met up with us in Orlando. He was in school at Riddle at the time. I did not know when this picture was taken that I would eventually be living in FL. I did not know that we would be dating.

Lately I have been very disatisfied with our apartment. Everything about it. It is old and mostly crappy, but not horrible. Still, I am ready to get out and since our lease it not up until August, I feel trapped. Not a good feeling. It's not that I am never happy, it's just that, we can afford a slightly better place...one that wasn't built in the 70s. These are my main complaints:

No pantry
Old inefficient and expensive appliances
No closet in the bathroom for towels
No drawers at the bathroom sink for my blow dryer
Only ONE sliding glass door in the family room and NO windows (except the one in our bedroom). Generally, the lack of windows
The location (It is not practical to ride my bike anywhere. I would rather be in a neighborhood and closer to work)

I really hope to live someplace like these one day.....

ahhhh...I would love to come home to any of these....

Charlie was lucky enough to have the opportunity to fly this one seat aerobatic airplane. It is a beauty and he flew it like he had been doing it his whole life! These are pictures of his first flight.

Some Ft. Myers Highlights!

We went to Ft. Myers to visit my Oma and Opa and spent most of the weekend on Sanibel Island!

My Oma is amazing. She deserves a post all her own, but here are the highlights of our wonderful trip.

I love them. It's awesome they are in FL for the winter.

Sanibel Beach. It was cold.

Driving through the Ding Darling Reserve. The bird watchers standing outside loved looking at Inari more than the birds!

I was a peacock for Halloween. I didnt decide that is what I wanted to be until the night before. I ran to the craft store, loaded up to tulle for a tutu, peacock feathers and hot glue. Luckily i found a gold corset at the thrift store that worked to hot glue everything onto the back of. I was so pleased with my costume! I wish i could wear it all the time!

I am inspired to make something more practical, this is my inspiration!

Its more of a change in the air than a change in the weather.

Things have been a little crazy since i started my job.

But it has left me exhausted and with little time to post lately. So now that i am getting into the swing of things and figuring out how to balance my life, i should be able to make more regular appearances.

What i was doing around this time last year:

Its bittersweet not being there. But i know i will always have these amazing memories of the Moped Gang in Blacksburg.

And luckily, Blacksburg will always be there whenever i want to return. And i will always have the friends i made there.

Being in Florida for the start of the semester at Tech is bittersweet....

Boyfriend is out laboring in the airplane even though it is labor day and everyone else has the day off. Bummer for him.

and our AC is re-broken since Friday. Until Tuesday. Superrrrr fun!

Yesterday we threw a Labor Day pool party/bbq. it was such a nice day and i think everyone had fun. I will post some pics of it later when my main focus is not sitting in front of the fan and staying cool.

It was a surprise for us also since we only found out about it a few hours before it was happening. One of Charlie's friends from work/aerobatic club turned 29! It was at one of our favorite sushi places (and arguably the best place for sushi around Daytona...and we have tried most of them). Takeya is no rival for my own Germantown, MD fav. Yuraku, but still awfully delicious! I think Ponso was surprised but also a little embarrassed. We made him wear a pink princess crown. All in all, a great night.

The ac in our apartment was broken all yesterday. it was basically bearable during the day, but once Charlie got home we started cooking and things really started heating up (no, not like that...)

I hate trying to fall asleep in a hot, muggy apartment. we both just slept on top of the fully made bed. one less thing i had to do this morning at least.

except...

i think our un-restful sleep caused Charlie to sleep through his alarm....ooops! i made him and took him lunch today because i felt so bad that his day got off to such a frantic start. he didn't really have time to eat it since his next flight was starting, but hey...i tried.

anyway, today i called about the ac, and even though the answering service hung up on me TWICE and the maintenance guys that i flagged down in the parking lot told me the managers were in the office...it did eventually get fixed. Thanks maintenance guys!! the only decent people employed by our apartment building (even though Inari doesn't agree and barks incessantly when they are here fixing).

today is a gross day. no sun. no fun. a pile of dirty laundry in the middle of the apartment that my little dog is currently sleeping on top of.

i feel dusty gray. daddy knows what that means.

i'm missing my family.

there is nothing good on TV.

i still have no job.

Ooooooo! i think i will go make a nice pot of coffee and maybe take a trip to the craft store.

its basically the middle of the night. Charlie is sleeping next to me and crushing my leg a little, and my little dog Inari is laying on my foot. This is the end of a Monday. A nice little Monday, if i do say so myself.

slept in since i have no job
worked on present for C's momma
went to Wally World for groceries since we are a little poor (one day Love's Whole Foods....one day...)
cooked a veggie pizza for dinner and i wished i could cram more veggies on there

Looking forward to a refreshing Florida fall...summer is getting to me!
